Authorities finding it hard to convince Europeans to accept vaccine

A European medical society has expressed alarm that there is widespread opposition in Europe against the swine flu vaccine.

The European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases has said medical authorities in countries which are providing the vaccines have been subjected to a misinformation campaign.

It has said that anti-vaccine lobbyists are disseminating doubts about the vaccine and its possible side effects.

In France only 21 percent of people have said they plan on being vaccinated.

Meanwhile, other medical experts have said deaths in Europe from the H1N1 virus are doubling every two weeks.

They are fearful a swine flu pandemic will spread more widely and cause more deaths, particularly among children and young adults.
