EU foreign ministers vow not to boycott Olympics
Kazakhstan News.Net Friday 28th March, 2008
At an informal meeting in Slovenia, the European Union member states have agreed not to boycott the Olympic Games in China, but have said they could stay away from the opening ceremony to protest against events in Tibet.
British Foreign Secretary David Miliband said:
'It's very important for all of us that the Olympic Games go ahead successfully because I think if you care about human rights in China the last thing that you want is to have the Olympics spoiled or broken.'
Ahead of the meeting, the host foreign minister, Slovenia's Dimitrij Rupel, expressed doubts about whether the ministers would find a common position on the Olympic Games and the Tibetan crisis, adding that he would prefer to see the two issues discussed separately.
However, as the EU's 27 foreign ministers gathered for a working lunch, officially on the theme of Syria, a definite consensus built up on the desirability of not boycotting the games themselves.
Some ministers also pointed out that the games are still four months away, and that any decision on whether or not to attend the opening ceremony could depend on further developments.
And the ministers echoed calls by the European Parliament Wednesday for the Chinese authorities to begin talks with exiled Tibetan leader the Dalai Lama.

EU foreign ministers vow not to boycott Olympics
These 27 European foreign ministers have shown their wisdom, because the Olympic games are a giant step towards world peace, even though some evil countries want to destroy all the work that civilized countries have done through out the years to create an atmosphere of world harmony among nations, and I believe that sport events are the road to understand our differences, and promote our sportsmanship with one another.

Boycott
If they (EU) want to boycott the games who cares?? there are other countries participating in the olympics. China should not let this association to interfere on it’s affairs.

History is a circle
Just like before the war when Germany & Hitler were the hosts, peace was the final result here. If the world had not attended the Germans may have never surrendered. Sorry just had to point this out! Heck we won’t even talk to terrorists in Iraq but in China it’s ok! I mean what’s more Important lives or sports-Guess it’s Sports!

China, the eyes and ears of the world are upon you, people are waiting to see your actions through these Beijing Olympics
Let us do not forget that in the German Olympics, the true colors of Germany were clearly evidenced to the world, when Jessi Owens won the gold medal, and Hitler left in protest because Jessi was a negro, and this showed clearly to the world that Germany was racist.
But times have changed since those old days, and people have made giant steps in racial relations, and I do hope that this will also bring changes in accepting human rights, and freedom of choice, so that the whole world could judge for themselves the progress that has been made in this field through the mass-media reporting and evidencing all.
